Baily

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten

Baily is a male red-colored domestic shorthair cat who was found with his family at the shelter. He is friendly towards other cats and dogs. Baily and his family were found in an unusual situation... Baily's mother had chosen a chicken coop to give birth to her kittens, which might seem like a good idea at first glance. However, Mama Britta underestimated one thing: Fräulein Huhn, the hen, was convinced that these six adorable kittens must have hatched from her eggs! So she started acting as a mother, as hens do. She climbed onto the nest, defended it and kept it warm. The kittens were comfortably warm but there was no milk to be found anywhere, so their hunger grew... Mama Britta became more desperate by the minute and eventually the chicken coop owners noticed these strange scenes unfolding. They alerted animal welfare services. Luckily, the cat family could be quickly secured and reunited at their foster home. A rather relieved mother and hungry babies immediately snuggled up to each other. The cat family is thriving in the shelter and soon it will be time to pack the bags. Our kittens need to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age, which must be proven with a certificate from the veterinarian. We are looking for new homes for our kittens, preferably in pairs. They can live indoors, on a secure balcony would be great, or outdoors with traffic-calmed access after being spayed/neutered. Not too young children and friendly dogs are welcome to join the new family. Contact: If you want to meet our little furballs, please get in touch with Anja Kalisch

About Baily

What life with Baily looks like

Baily is a small puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baily, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baily?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baily on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baily if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baily already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baily isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baily and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
