Bakita

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 17 years

I am Bakita, a loving but very anxious and somewhat traumatized cat, already quite elderly. Would someone still want to love me again? That would be me: I was secured with a tomcat for animal welfare reasons. I am already a cat mom, but physically, for my age, I am still quite well together. Due to a spinal problem, I take pain medication and am otherwise in good health at the animal shelter. However, I am struggling greatly at the animal shelter – I am not getting along well here and would like to find my own quiet place far away from the hustle and bustle as soon as possible. In the first weeks here, I hardly moved and was frozen with fear. Things are slowly getting better, but only with familiar people. I am still very insecure and skeptical. I wish for a very patient, quiet home with empathy – ideally initially as a foster home, who then adopts me and accompanies me on the rest of my journey. It would probably be best for me if I were an individual princess, so I am not stressed by a merger. Are you the key to my soul?

About Bakita

What life with Bakita looks like

Bakita is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bakita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bakita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bakita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bakita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bakita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bakita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bakita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
