Balia

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 7 years

Balia arrived at the shelter following the death of one of her owners. Left alone with three dogs, her owner could no longer manage the situation, unfortunately. Balia’s boundless energy had become too difficult to live with for the two Chihuahuas in the household, making cohabitation extremely challenging. Balia is a young, lively dog bursting with energy and enthusiasm. She’s waiting for nothing more than to finally receive the care and attention she deserves. Behind her fiery temperament lies a dog who is deeply attached to humans, always eager for interaction, attention, and shared activities. Unfortunately, Balia has never really had the chance to learn the basics of family life. Out of fear that she might harm the other two dogs, she spent most of her time confined to a cage. Walks were also among the few privileges she rarely experienced. Today, everything needs to be built from scratch with her. Very affectionate, Balia spontaneously seeks contact with people she meets. Her excitement, however, sometimes leads her to jump, grab hands, or even behave somewhat abruptly. This is absolutely not aggression—it’s simply a lack of training and difficulty channeling her enthusiasm. Balia will need adopters who are ready to patiently, consistently, and kindly reteach her all the essential skills. Walks, new experiences, activities, and learning opportunities will be crucial for her well-being. Balia has an enormous amount of energy to burn and tremendous potential just waiting to be nurtured in the right environment.

FR·Show original

About Balia

What life with Balia looks like

Balia is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Frequently asked

Adopting Balia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
