The optically rather appealing mixed-breed male dog Balou (*9/2020) originally came from Greece and was seized by the Düsseldorf Veterinary Office in January 2021 due to illegal import. After the legally prescribed quarantine period at our shelter, we were able to place him in a good home, but unfortunately, he had to return in July 2022 due to a health issue in his family. In the meantime, the previously rather shy and reserved Balou has become a sturdy male dog who clearly shows that a good portion of herding dog is in him. He has a very independent nature and is quite clear when something doesn't suit him – for example, brushing – and even if one tries to restrict him, he doesn't really find that great. Balou knows the basic commands and walks well on a leash when led confidently by his primary caregiver. He is house-trained and enjoys going for car rides. With fellow animals, Balou is generally compatible by sympathy. If that is not the case, he can also react more strongly and is currently led on a muzzle to protect all involved. For Balou, we are looking for a quiet home without children and other animals with very experienced people who are familiar with the husbandry and the special characteristics of herding dogs and are willing to invest a longer period in the joint getting-to-know-you phase at our animal shelter.

Der optisch durchaus ansprechende Mischlingsrüde Balou (*9/2020) stammt ursprünglich aus Griechenland und ist im Januar 2021 wegen illegaler Einfuhr vom Veterinäramt Düsseldorf beschlagnahmt worden. Nach Ablauf der gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Quarantäne bei uns konnten wir ihn in ein gutes Zuhause vermitteln aber leider ist er im Juli 2022 wegen eines Krankheitsfalls in der Familie wieder zurückgekommen. In der Zwischenzeit ist aus dem früher eher schüchternen und zurückhaltenden Balou ein stattlicher Rüde geworden, der ganz deutlich zeigt, dass eine ordentliche Portion Herdenschutzhund in ihm steckt. Er hat ein sehr eigenständiges Wesen und zeigt ganz klar, wenn ihm etwas nicht passt - z.B. bürsten - und auch wenn man versucht, ihn einzuschränken, findet er das nicht wirklich toll. Balou kennt die Grundkommandos und läuft bei einer souveränen Führung durch seine Bezugsperson gut an der Leine. Er ist stubenrein und fährt gerne im Auto mit. Mit Artgenossen ist Balou nach Sympathie verträglich. Wenn das nicht der Fall ist, kann er auch schon mal heftiger reagieren und wird deshalb aktuell zum Schutze aller Beteiligten draußen mit Maulkorb geführt. Für Balou suchen wir ein ruhiges Zuhause ohne Kinder und andere Tiere bei sehr hundeerfahrenen Menschen, die sich mit der Haltung und den speziellen Eigenschaften von Herdenschutzhunden auskennen und bereit sind, einen längeren Zeitraum in die gemeinsame Kennenlernphase bei uns im Tierheim zu investieren.
