Balou

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Balou (M) 6 years - adoption via BorderLineCollie Characteristics Birth date: 5/12/2017 Gender: Male Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child compatibility: From about 16 years old Child dog compatibility: Must always be tested Cat compatibility: No Other compatibility: No Character The owners describe Balou as a happy and playful border collie who loves to play with balls and really enjoys walks in the woods or on the beach. He is still full of energy! However, the problem is that Balou cannot get used to the presence of young children in the house. The noise and activity in the house cause him a lot of stress, and to express his frustration, he bites the door frame and/or the chair or even the television screen. He can no longer find peace in the house. Because of this high level of stress, Balou attacks other dogs, cats, cyclists, scooters, and people wearing post NL clothes in the street. During a walk, Balou bit a child on a bicycle. The owners attribute this incident to the high level of stress Balou experiences during walks. The owners have lost confidence in Balou and have asked BLC to find him another home. Background Balou arrived at his owners' home as a puppy. He has attended several training classes and knows a large number of commands and tricks. At home, there are several agility equipment and Balou really likes to do something with them. He also goes to the daycare twice a week and plays with about twenty dogs, which he really enjoys. Balou can be left alone at home for several hours without any problems; he knows the crate but hardly ever lies in it; in the car, he is calm. He has not been tested with sheep. Balou does not like unexpected movements, the veterinarian, brushing, thunderstorms, and fireworks.

About Balou

What life with Balou looks like

Balou is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
