BALTHAZAR

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 10 years

Balthazar – 10 years old, Balthazar is a lovely senior cat, gentle, affectionate and extremely close to humans. Behind his tender gaze lies a story far from easy... Adopted as a kitten at the shelter, Balthazar returned ten years later following the death of his owner. A huge upheaval for this big-hearted little one, who had to lose all his references overnight. After a few weeks at the shelter, Balthazar had managed to melt the heart of a new family. When he left, he already showed hair loss that we thought was related to the stress of his return to the shelter. Unfortunately, the reality was much more complex. Despite all the love received in his new home, his condition continued to deteriorate. Balthazar therefore returned to the shelter to continue with more thorough examinations. The diagnosis was made: Balthazar suffers from hyperplastic dermatitis, also called eosinophilic granuloma, a skin allergic syndrome requiring appropriate follow-up and care. Today, a treatment is underway to relieve him, accompanied by a specific diet. We are urgently looking for a foster family willing to open their home to Balthazar, so that he can receive all the necessary care in a stable, calm and loving environment. Once his condition stabilizes, adoption can certainly be considered. Balthazar also benefits from the Doyen contract set up by 30 Millions d'Amis, allowing coverage of potential veterinary costs up to 1000 euros. Today more than ever, Balthazar needs a warm home, presence, gentleness and stability. After everything he has been through, this wonderful cat deserves at last to settle permanently with people ready to love him as he deserves. About BALTHAZAR

What life with BALTHAZAR looks like

BALTHAZAR is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Refuge Angoumois in Angoulême.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting BALTHAZAR, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BALTHAZAR?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refuge Angoumois handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BALTHAZAR on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BALTHAZAR if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refuge Angoumois will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BALTHAZAR already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BALTHAZAR isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refuge Angoumois early rather than rehoming privately; they know BALTHAZAR and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
