Name: BALTO Identification: 250268743525768 Breed (non-LOF type): x Labrador Date of birth (age): 12/03/2019 Build: large Weight: 28 kg Height: Behavior: Balto is a big baby who needs training. He loves everyone and is exuberant about showing it. He needs to learn to control himself and not jump. Balto is a Labrador cross and I think a Flat-Coated Retriever, as seen in the photos with his longer coat. He is a very cuddly and affectionate companion, very attached to people. He tends to be destructive when left alone. Getting along with other animals: Balto can meet other animals without any problems, but he is possessive and does not accept his owner caring for other animals. Photo: Adoption conditions: Placement under contract with La Patte de l'Espoir, and a contribution of 200 euros toward veterinary costs (identification, vaccinations, neutering). Balto is in foster care in the 27 (department). Would you like to adopt BALTO? Download our adoption application form (to fill out...

About Balto

What life with Balto looks like

Balto is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at La Patte de l in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balto?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. La Patte de l handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balto if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — La Patte de l will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Balto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balto isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with La Patte de l early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
