Balto

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Balto was locally adopted! His story: Balto is a clear case of a friendship pro! With a wagging tail, Balto will express boundless enthusiasm the moment he spots his favorite people. His twitching nose often can't resist the temptation to give them wet kisses to show how special they are to him. And without any hesitation, his loyal paws will unconditionally follow his two-legged friends, for the puppy sees true friendship as something deeply rooted in his heart, not something learned. The 9-month-old puppy was rescued together with his brother Suomi from the street and brought to our Romanian shelter. There, he adapted remarkably quickly and easily. He feels comfortable in the company of people and other furry friends, and is always friendly, showing playful behavior from head to tail. Whether he has a liking for cats, we unfortunately haven't been able to test yet. Our Balto has such a charming presence that he immediately wins hearts. With his short brown-black fur and spotted legs, he is an absolutely beautiful mixed-breed male dog. Currently, he measures 45 cm and weighs 15 kg. We assume that he will reach a perfect medium size when fully grown. The curious and lively Balto is definitely not made for a limited life in a shelter kennel. He is full of energy and initiative, longing for long sniffs and exciting potty walks. Additionally, he is very eager to learn, which will make it easier for his future owners to teach him the still unknown dog ABC. A joint training in a good dog training class would certainly benefit the young pup and deepen his relationship with his heart's people. Of course, it should not be forgotten that the sweet Balto is currently going through puberty. During this phase, the hormones in the puppy's head stir things up. Suddenly, rules are questioned, the favorite toy is dismantled, and seemingly learned things are forgotten. It is important to support Balto patiently and lovingly during this time while also guiding him confidently and consistently. Promised, so far, every rebellious puppy teenager has eventually turned back into a cuddly four-legged friend. If this lovely fellow is allowed to travel, he would be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas on the travel date. He has an EU pet passport and can be taken in after a positive health check. Who shares our enthusiasm for Balto and would be willing to form a wonderful friendship with him? A caring foster home that shows him a new and better world would be an incredible help for him. For taking on the nametag sponsorship, we would like to heartily thank Antje H. As of 12.11. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Balto

What life with Balto looks like

Balto is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
