Bamse

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

"Hi, my name is Bamse! I'm a very affectionate guy who spends most of my time on the sofa, but I can also be a bit skittish in some situations. I have a tough past that has left its mark. My ears are partially eaten away by the cold after a life out in the frost and loneliness. I had several rotten teeth that had to be removed and my body is a bit stiff, but my heart still beats strongly for life! I like to be in control and thrive best when things happen on my terms. From the ones I'm comfortable with, like my foster family, I get lots of cuddles - and it's so good that I almost forget to keep my balance! I almost fall over while being petted, because I enjoy it so much 😄❤️ I may hiss or scratch a little if I'm skittish or if things go beyond what I'm comfortable with, but just to make my needs known! Because of this, I shouldn't live with children. I'm good at using the cat door and value peace and predictability. It's important for me to have good scratching options like a cat tree, so I don't scratch things that aren't suitable. I love wet food in sauce, and the soft treats are my favorite. I actually make little "mew" sounds when I get them 😋 I take my medication every day for my stiff body, and I take it directly from the syringe without any problem, because I actually like the taste. I'm a sweet, weird, and wonderful guy with a lot of personality. I purr and snore when I'm happy, and I like to be nearby. If you give me security and stability, I will give you a real and loving relationship, in my way, and at my pace." – Bamse 💙 I have something called FIV. It doesn't bother me, but it means I can't roam outside anymore. FIV can infect other cats if we end up fighting and biting each other deeply. FIV does not infect humans or other animals besides cats, so there's no reason to worry. Cats with FIV can live long, completely normal lives without symptoms, but should - like all cats - be regularly checked by a veterinarian. If you're unsure what FIV is and what it means, the people at Heart for Homeless Cats can certainly explain more through a completely non-binding conversation.

About Bamse

What life with Bamse looks like

Bamse is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter in Trollåsen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bamse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bamse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bamse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bamse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bamse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bamse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bamse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NB). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
