Adopt Bandit

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Shoulder height: 52 cm · With us since: 13.05.2022 Not suitable for families with children · Athletic and active Bandit was surrendered due to being overwhelmed by the owners. He is a spirited dog who must be physically and mentally stimulated. Bandit knows clicker training, has started lunge training and is enthusiastic about tracking. His basic obedience is very good. Encounters with other dogs on a leash still need to be trained. With his fellow animals, he is usually friendly. Bandit tends to bully lower-ranking dogs. He is housebroken and can be left alone for several hours. He loves car rides. But even Bandit has his issues. Once he has found his primary caregiver, he must protect this person above all and at all times. Also, he must defend his territory against visitors. This behavior must be addressed from the beginning. However, with intensive trust-building and consistent leadership, this should not be a problem. Basically, Bandit is a very insecure dog, so he likes to delegate these tasks to his people. Bandit initially meets unfamiliar people with shyness and skepticism. We wish for patient and experienced dog lovers who would like to give this fine guy a chance. Update: 16.04.2023 Bandit has settled in at our animal shelter and has built a great relationship with our staff member. He is a very humorous and friendly dog who often makes people smile with his charming manner. To get to know Bandit from this "chocolate side," it needs a relationship based on mutual respect and trust. It takes time to build such a "foundation." We wish for people who enjoy investing a little time and effort into him. In return, you will gain a great and loyal friend. Bandit needs clear guidance in daily life, otherwise he tends to handle things himself (bickering during dog encounters, growling at people, etc.). However, with consistent leadership and a sense of security, he can tolerate other dogs on a leash and behave appropriately towards strangers. Bandit is smart and learns new things incredibly quickly. He can still be left alone, ride well in the car, and enjoys sports activities. At our shelter, he runs with many other dogs in a group. We wish for Bandit a loving forever home, but we can also imagine a foster home for him. This animal is house-trained.

03841 - 79 01 79

About Bandit

What life with Bandit looks like

Bandit is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bandit, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bandit?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bandit on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bandit if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bandit already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bandit isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bandit and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
