Banky

Male · Senior · 9 years

Banky is a five-year-old Flat-Coated Retriever who has been deemed a "RUDELPUNKT" due to severe biting incidents. These incidents are serious and can be clearly attributed to a specific context: Banky exhibits prey-motivated aggressive behavior. This refers to things that Banky has found or earned himself and which have a high value for him at that moment. This topic has been worked on intensively with Banky in recent months. A big advantage in dealing with him is that he communicates very clearly through body language in corresponding situations and is easy to assess for people who can read dog behavior safely. Banky has made significant progress here and gives up objects or lets them be taken off. Nevertheless, this topic remains relevant and must be continued responsibly in his new home. Additionally, Banky exhibited food-motivated aggressive behavior. This has also been worked on and he no longer shows this behavior towards his current caregivers. Apart from these topics, Banky is an exceptionally pleasant and uncomplicated everyday companion. He is on a leash, can run freely and integrates easily into everyday life. In social contact with other dogs, he is confident and very open to people. Banky can accompany his humans relaxed, is happy to be there and manages to not be in the spotlight at the same time. In short: In everyday life, he is a really great dog that you enjoy having by your side. However, Banky's unassuming nature should not be misleading about the seriousness of his history and his issues. Therefore, only dog-experienced people who are knowledgeable about dog behavior and body language, can correctly assess Banky's behavior and are willing to consistently continue the previous work are sought. Whoever brings these prerequisites and handles his issues responsibly will get a confident, people-oriented and really good companion for life with Banky. About Banky

What life with Banky looks like

Banky is a large senior dog waiting at Tierheim Brilon in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Banky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Banky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Brilon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Banky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Banky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Brilon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Banky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Banky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Brilon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Banky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
