adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! The wonderful Barbara came to the shelter in Bistrita with her six puppies, Onkel, Aimi, Dino, Rolfi, Yano, and an unnamed female dog. She probably lived as a street dog and then came to the public shelter in Bistrita with the dog catchers. All of her puppies could fortunately already travel. Barbara stayed alone in the shelter… unfortunately the fate of many dog mothers 🙁 The female dog, about 4 years old, looks optically like a German Shepherd mix, is about 55 cm tall, and weighs around 28-30 kg. Barbara is a very loving and friendly female dog; she shows herself to be super loving, open, and very cuddly in contact with people. With her fellow animals, she is very compatible and is allowed to sometimes go out to the run to get some exercise. For Barbara, we are looking for active people who would like to make beautiful excursions with her. As a German Shepherd mix, she will surely quickly bond with her trusted people and become a faithful companion. Since she probably hasn't yet experienced life in a house and the everyday life in a family, she needs people who can guide her through new situations confidently. Topics like house cleanliness, everyday noises, and walking on a leash still need to be trained with her. Children should already be a bit older and stable, as she can also sometimes be a bit wild. A visit to dog training classes would surely bring Barbara a lot of fun. Agility, mantrailing, or head or nose work would also surely bring her joy. Barbara is ready to take the path into a new life full of adventures – she just needs the right people by her side! Barbara travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas to her home. She also has her EU pet passport in her luggage. After a positive But also a foster home would be a good start to come out of the loud and hectic shelter life. Many thanks to Marina! You gave Barbara her name and thus the chance to start a happy future. A big thank you also goes to Torben K., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Barbara. As of: 28.05.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 28.05.2026

About Barbara

What life with Barbara looks like

Barbara is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barbara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barbara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barbara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barbara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barbara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barbara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barbara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
