Barcelona

Mixed Breed Cat · Female

Description: Our animal rescuers report: Barcelona is a young kitten, yet despite her tender age, she has already survived a difficult start in life. The kitten was born on a railway yard next to a highway, where large, heavy freight trains come and go all day long. For any animal, but especially for an inexperienced kitten, this is life-threatening! Even before she could properly grow big, she was already being chased by adult male cats. When she was finally rescued, she weighed barely 2.1 kg—she was nothing more than skin, bones, and hope! The animal rescuer who found her took her to the vet; she was given the name Barcelona, spayed, fully vaccinated, tested for FIV/Felv, FPv, FCov/Giardia, and soon began to gain weight beautifully. But what truly makes Barcelona special is her personality. She loves to communicate. Talk to her, and she’ll respond with soft little meows—as if she’s actively participating in the conversation. She insists on eye contact. If you walk past her, she won’t give up until you look her in the eyes. She meows patiently, holds your gaze, and seems satisfied only when she’s sure you’ve noticed her. Barcelona is a reserved, little girl. If you reach out your hand to pet her, she won’t hiss, scratch, or bite. She simply freezes, unsure whether she’s finally safe at last. If you’re looking for a cat who’ll welcome you home, talk to you, seek your gaze, and quietly remind you every day that love can be found in the smallest of moments, then Barcelona is waiting for you. All she needs is someone willing to look into those golden, amber-colored eyes—and never let her feel invisible again. 💙 Please note: The feedback from the foster homes reflects the current behavior of the animals here.

About Barcelona

What life with Barcelona looks like

Barcelona is a large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barcelona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barcelona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barcelona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barcelona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barcelona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barcelona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barcelona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
