Barnabás

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Barnabás is a young, approximately 2023 born mixed breed male who was asked by the Szurkolók az Állatokért foundation for an SOS help. He was left with a companion in the kennel, locked in, and had no chance, only a slow death! Unfortunately, his companion did not make it, he died of starvation… Barnabás survived and is so grateful that he almost jumps out of his skin. He wags his tail, gives kisses. Now his hardships are over, he gets food, love and care. Unfortunately, when he entered the shelter, a heartworm test came back positive and according to the heart ultrasound, he was severely infected with heartworms, which required immediate life-saving heart surgery. During the catheter-based heartworm removal surgery, 8 large heartworms were successfully removed from him. Unfortunately, there are still some left, but this can now be transferred to safety. After his vaccinations and neutering, and continuing heartworm treatment, Barnabás can be adopted as a family member.

A katéteres szívféreg eltávolító műtét során 8 hatalmas szívférget sikerült eltávolítani belőle. Maradt még sajnos, de ez már át tudja lendíteni az életveszélyen. Barnabás oltásai és ivartalanítása után, szívféreg kezelés folytatásával családtagnak fogadható örökbe. About Barnabás

What life with Barnabás looks like

Barnabás is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Heartworm treatment required - had life-saving surgery to remove 8 heartworms, ongoing treatment needed

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barnabás, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barnabás?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barnabás on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barnabás if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barnabás already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barnabás isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barnabás and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
