Adopt Barney

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Animal rescuer: Virginia Georgieva born: ca. 2022 Gender: male Place of residence: Bulgaria neutered: yes FIV test: negative FeLV test: negative Handicaps: right eye cloudy compatible with: children: not known cats: yes dogs: not known Requirements: NO single housing, suitable only for apartment living, NO outdoor access, balcony or terrace preferred (if available, safety measures are required) Barney's life was turned upside down from one day to the next. His owner moved to Paris a few months ago and left him and another cat behind. He gave the apartment key to a neighbor and asked her to put the cats out when he moved out. Fortunately, the woman had a big heart and took care of the furry paws every day. She fed them and started looking for help. In early December, Virginia visited the two cats in the apartment. It was clear that both Barney and the other feline deserved a better life. So, both were allowed to move into the animal shelter. Unfortunately, Barney's right eye is damaged. We don't know the cause, possibly Barney had an infection as a kitten that wasn't treated. But he manages very well and shows no limitations in everyday life. The first two weeks at the animal shelter, Barney spent almost exclusively in hiding and was like a statue. But then, suddenly, the click went off and the sweet guy thawed out. Today, he is an absolute cuddle cat, fully enjoying the attention of his people. He loves cuddles, enjoys being spoiled, and can't get enough of closeness and affection. Barney soaks up cuddle units and also likes to be kissed. He gets along well with other cats in general. For his happiness, however, he doesn't need a large group of cats around him. Much more important to him is a harmonious coexistence and fellow animals who respect his boundaries and don't pressure him. For Barney, we wish for a home where he finally gets all the attention he so desperately craves. If you're looking for a real cuddle cat who loves closeness and gratefully accepts every pet, then you should definitely write to Barney. He looks forward to your message!

About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
