adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Barney has found his spot! His story: Whirlwind Barney is on the lookout for a new family. Barney is 7 months old and an active, intelligent, and eager-to-learn male dog with a special character. Currently, he stands at 45 cm in shoulder height and weighs around 12.5 kg. With his beige fur and cute white accents, he is a real looker. Barney already masters many basic commands like "Sit," "Stay," "left/right side," and can even lie down on command. In tolerance training, he has made great progress: he patiently waits for the release of his food, can be recalled at the door, and gives up chew toys without a problem. Being alone has also been practiced with him (up to about 20 minutes) – so far, it's going well. Despite all these strengths, Barney also brings some challenges: He is a very energetic dog with a strong will. Accordingly, he needs a lot of mental and physical stimulation as well as clear, calm guidance. In new or very stimulating situations, he quickly becomes overwhelmed and is hard to calm down. During dog encounters, he shows great enthusiasm and playfulness – this is sometimes expressed through barking, but not in an aggressive manner. He seeks contact but still doesn't know how to regulate it well. Barney is now entering puberty, which means he will test boundaries, loudly express his opinion, and occasionally act as if he has never heard of "Sit," "Stay," or "No." During this phase, he needs loving consequences, calmness, and people who understand and guide his development, and forgive the occasional mishap. Barney is clever and curious – a great combination to keep him mentally and behaviorally stimulated. Whether small games in the garden, joint training, or perhaps some dog sports like Mantrailing or Hoopers: As long as he can participate and receive mental and physical stimulation, that's what matters. Barney is looking for a home that is ready for a mix of pubertal chaos, cuddle moments, learning moments, and great joy. Whoever shows him how wonderful the world can be gets a loyal companion for life. Barney is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and brings an EU pet passport. He can be visited after a positive Barney can be visited. Many thanks Emily B.! You gave Barney his name! Date: 03.05.

Vielen Dank Emily B.! Du hast Barney seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 03.05.2025

About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
