Baro

Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Baro, Malinois (Mix), born in 2018, neutered Baro came over from the veterinary office with two broken knees. For over a year, he was a constant patient at the animal clinic, surviving multiple operations and being a real model patient and a favorite among the staff. With people who are kind to him, he is loyal and friendly. Rasse- and hundetypisch, of course, he also needs boundaries and rules. Cats and small animals should under no circumstances live in his new home. Children could also overwhelm him and should definitely be at least teenagers and dog-savvy. A home without children would probably be more to his liking – and to ours. As he can be rather rough, we see him either as a single dog or with larger and female fellow animals. Baro is looking for people who can give him security and make decisions for him that he lacks the competence to make. Baro’s basic obedience can certainly be considered trainable. On the leash, he sometimes jumps out of his comfort zone and gets feisty when not correctly guided and regulated. He would also likely redirect his frustration and possibly lash out at his human. At our place, he wears a muzzle, which he knows and accepts without problems. Potential adopters should be aware that Baro is likely to develop arthritis due to his changed gait. Nevertheless, this brave and wonderful dog deserves to finally be on the sunny side. Despite his silly legs, Baro always has a good mood and wants to make up for everything he missed out on with his people. For that, he needs people who don’t pity him but give him security, make decisions for him, and go forward with him into the future. Who feels called and is looking for a lifelong friend? DE·Show original

About Baro

What life with Baro looks like

Baro is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Pirmasens in Pirmasens.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Pirmasens handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Pirmasens will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Pirmasens early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
