Barry

Male · Adult · 4 years

Barry is a wonderful Mechelse shepherd dog, 4 years old. He came to us due to his owner's hospitalization. Barry is normally kept indoors during the day with access to the outside. At night, Barry sleeps inside. Barry lived with other dogs and it went well. Barry is not car sick. He is housebroken when let out in time. He did not live with children. Barry is a boy with a wonderful character, a real cuddly bear for his owners, who gets a lot of support from them. Barry's weakness is staying home alone. Barry has been often alone at home for many hours recently, which he was not used to before. He doesn't chew anything, but he does like to move around loose items, a real interior architect therefore. 🙂 Staying home alone will therefore have to be built up further, but Barry is an eager learner and fully embraces learning in exchange for a wonderful home. Now Barry is looking for his golden bed. He can be tested with his own dog. He will not be placed with children. Barry is a young, energetic Mechelse shepherd and is therefore looking for energetic owners who want to do a lot with him! He will not be placed to live outside or as a guard dog!! Barry is looking for a family that is really looking for a companion. Who can give Barry his golden bed?

NL·Show original

About Barry

What life with Barry looks like

Barry is a adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
