Adopt Barth

Male · Senior · 9 years

November 1, 2024: In mid-October 2024, we were on team tour again. Four days long, we were accompanied by engaged team members who wanted to meet or see our partners and dogs and cats. One of our stops was at Canile Arzachena, where there were several new arrivals in addition to already familiar animals. So, we also caught up with the great male dog Barth, who shares a pen with female dog Carioca. Unfortunately, both dogs are still waiting for their chance to leave Canile. The handsome Barth is a temperamental hunting dog, always friendly and people-oriented. When he was let into the large dog play area with Carioca, he took full advantage of the space for a thorough run, but would always come back to us for a pet. We wish very much that Barth can soon travel to Germany to a loving family where he will be cared for with love and in a needs-oriented manner. A team colleague and her daughter sacrificed part of their vacation time to personally meet or see some of the shelter animals. So, they also met the great Barth. Barth was completely overjoyed when he got a visit – his joy was immense. He showed himself to be a very open, friendly, and loving dog who thoroughly enjoyed every pet. He is a real little power pack full of joie de vivre. For a smile, he also provided when he suddenly climbed into the small water bowl with all four paws to cool off – a typical Barth moment that perfectly reflects his cheerful and carefree nature. Barth now wishes for a home where he can share his joie de vivre. Would you give him this chance? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We place animals throughout the country.

About Barth

What life with Barth looks like

Barth is a large senior dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barth, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barth?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barth on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barth if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barth already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barth isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barth and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
