Adopt Baru

Mixed Breed · Male

Hello everyone, I'm Boaru, known as Baru, and I originally come from Romania. Now, I'm with my foster mom in Germany, enjoying life to the fullest. Petting, playing, good food, a soft bed—this is luxury compared to where I came from. What I still need for my happiness is my own home. Maybe it's with you? To help you get to know me a bit, let me tell you a little about myself. At first, I found a lot of things pretty scary. In my past, I hadn't had the chance to experience much. But my foster mom and my dog buddies have shown me how wonderful the world can be, and now I'm really brave. I love going for walks. It doesn't have to be a marathon, and jogging isn't my thing, but I don't mind 1-2 hours at all. I don't pull on the leash, and when my foster mom is alert, I even get to run without a leash sometimes. That's really great. I also enjoy chasing birds in the garden, though my foster mom always scolds me, so I try not to get caught. I'm a smart little guy. Car rides and being alone don't bother me. I do, however, really enjoy it when my foster mom is at home and has time for me. In my past, I never got this much attention, and my foster mom always says I deserve it. I get along great with other dogs. As a bit of a charmer, I naturally prefer female dogs, but male dogs are okay too. Small children can be a bit too wild for me, so I sometimes have to scold them. I would prefer a home without children or with older children. When I meet new things or new people, I can be a bit reserved at first. But I quickly get convinced that the people and situations are great, especially if there's a treat involved. I'm almost always in a good mood, I know how to behave, and I really want to please my people.

About Baru

What life with Baru looks like

Baru is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Markdorf in Markdorf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baru, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baru?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Markdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baru on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baru if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Markdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baru already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baru isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Markdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baru and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
