Bary

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

We invite you to get to know Bar - a delicate dog who may initially appear shy and cautious. However, upon closer acquaintance, he turns out to be a sensitive dog who needs time to trust new people and situations. Bary is a dog who explores his surroundings mainly with his nose, very carefully snuffling during walks, but also in new places and rooms. Though he may be a bit cautious at first, curiosity usually wins out, although his hind legs often stay behind as a safety measure. When there's a sudden movement of a hand towards him, he sometimes freezes, feeling uncertain, but quickly returns to his interest in the environment. Though he may not always respond to being called at first, he increasingly runs after toys, especially a ball or tug toy. However, the company of humans and chosen treats are usually more important to him than the toys themselves. During walks, it's best to use a leash because Bary may pull on it and has a lot of strength. It's also important to avoid prolonged sun exposure, as there is a risk of eye damage due to an autoimmune disease. Bary requires daily eye drops. Bary gets along fairly well with selected dogs, even with larger siblings.

PL·Show original

About Bary

What life with Bary looks like

Bary is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bary, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bary?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bary on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bary if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bary already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bary isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bary and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
