Adopt Basil

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

"Hi, my name is Basil. I'm curious, playful and a bit wild - but can also be a chill guy. If you want to "kick a ball" (a little toy ball) with me or play with a feather, I'll be really happy, it's really fun. I think I'm looking for a home where I can have a playmate. I live with another cat that I like to play with but she doesn't want to play with me 😔 but I'm pretty good at entertaining myself, and I like to climb the big cat tree. Heights are very exciting to explore... Otherwise I'm social and seeking contact and always follow what's happening. But I can also observe from a distance, I don't need affection and attention all the time, it's kind of too much... But if I go into "chill mode" and relax on the bed, then I would like some affection. And then you can pet me on the head, back, chest and stomach, and you can touch my paws. Don't ask me why but I think it's nice to come over while you're sitting on the toilet. Then I'll walk back and forth and rub against your legs, and stand on my hind legs so you can pet me on the head. I really like getting petted on the head. If I blink at you - something I often do, especially if you do it first - then I can gently "poke" you with my head, and I'd like to pet you on the face if you bend down towards me. Sometimes I "meow" a bit, either to say "here I come," or if I'm in play/explore mode... I'm a bit jumpy and get scared if there are loud noises or sudden movements. Then I run away and hide under the bed. But then I'm back again! 😇"

About Basil

What life with Basil looks like

Basil is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter in Trollåsen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Basil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Basil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Basil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Basil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Basil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Basil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hjerte for Hjemløse Katter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Basil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NB). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
