Beethoven

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 1 year

Labrador-Mix Beethoven—a gentle dream dog with a heart of gold. Sometimes, you don’t need an extraordinary story at all. Sometimes, it’s enough to simply meet a dog like Beethoven—and you’re instantly enchanted. The roughly one-and-a-half-year-old “chocolate bear” has recently been living at our partner animal shelter in Spain. We know nothing about his past—but we know so much about his character. Everyone who meets Beethoven raves about him. Words like charming, gentle, calm, loving, friendly, and people-oriented keep popping up again and again. The volunteers on site describe him as a real jackpot. He’s a dog you just fall for immediately. Beethoven seeks close human companionship; he greets everyone openly and kindly, radiating a wonderful serenity. Despite his size, he’s an exceptionally gentle dog whose light silver gaze and wonderfully relaxed demeanor have everyone wrapped around his paws. Of course, Beethoven isn’t a small dog. But if you have room for a big friend, you’ll gain a loyal companion who, with his balanced demeanor, will enrich your days every single day. Beethoven is a young dog who still has plenty to learn—and he’s eager to do so. He wants to please others and, with the right guidance, will blossom into a truly special companion. Now, all Beethoven needs is the most important thing: people who will love him, offer him security, and show him just how wonderful having a home of his own can be. Beethoven is waiting in Spain for his happy ending—perhaps with you? Click here to watch Beethoven’s video!

About Beethoven

What life with Beethoven looks like

Beethoven is a large young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Beethoven, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Beethoven?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Beethoven on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Beethoven if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Beethoven already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Beethoven isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Beethoven and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
