Bella and Mecce

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Bella and Mecce are mother and son. Bella is a 7 year old Bichon while Mecce is a Cavachon, 6 years of age. Their owner had to move house and couldn’t take the dogs, These are very friendly easy dogs who will make wonderful pets in the right home. They walk well on the lead, they are fine meeting other dogs and they are all-round adorable. Both are now neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Bella has had a few litters of pups in the past, fortunately those days are past now. While Mecce is in very robust health, Bella has a distinct luxating patella on her hind leg. This is a common issue, we often see it in the “terrier hop” whereby they hold up their leg a while, and then start using it again. It is caused by the kneecap moving around a bit within the leg and dogs can live unhindered by it for many years. Bella’s hop is more pronounced than some, her hop can go on for a couple of minutes before righting itself. The veterinary advice is that while the kneecap continues to click into place we should leave well enough alone. However, this is something that will most likely need attention across future years whenever she starts to feel any pain or if the patella does not continue to right itself. Future owners must be committed to ensuring that she receives the care she needs when she needs it. Other than this issue, Bella and Mecce are easy, lovable, friendly dogs who would do well in most homes. A secure garden is essential as is a life of extreme cosiness!

About Bella and Mecce

What life with Bella and Mecce looks like

Bella and Mecce is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella and Mecce, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella and Mecce?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella and Mecce on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella and Mecce if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bella and Mecce already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella and Mecce isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella and Mecce and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
