Bella

Golden Retriever · Female · Senior · 9 years

"Friendly Sunbeam" Breed: Golden Retriever Birthdate: August 2017 Size: just over knee-high Gets along with dogs: no Children in the same household: possible starting at teenage age Home sought: in the countryside The loving, 2017-born female Golden Retriever Bella is people-friendly, cuddly, and can be given to children starting at teenage age. Other dogs unfortunately do not belong to her friends. Bella is house-trained and is currently learning to walk on a loose leash with reward-based training, making good progress. She also wants to learn to handle dog encounters calmly with much patience and care, as this still stresses her at the moment – but she is already making progress and is also wearing her muzzle obediently. A mammary tumor was diagnosed in Bella. This will be removed for us in May, and in the process, the female dog will also be spayed. Due to her skin condition, Bella is currently only getting horse as a protein source, which is better for her. We are looking for a home in the countryside for Bella with training-savvy people.

About Bella

What life with Bella looks like

Bella is a small senior golden retriever dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
