Ben

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Ben • born 07/2023 • approx. 53 cm fearful • sensitive • eager to learn • seeking experienced adopters or a foster home Ben belongs to a litter of puppies that we rescued from difficult conditions in Motru almost two years ago. From the very beginning, he was one of the shy dogs – somewhat less timid than three of his siblings. Update September 2025: Ben is still fearful, but there is progress. The earlier panic that his siblings showed during our first visits has noticeably subsided. All four are now "normally fearful" – a state that allows them to approach people cautiously without becoming completely overwhelmed. This development gives us courage. A few visits since December have already been enough to ease the extreme shyness of the early days. This gives reason to hope for a positive outlook once Ben is able to move into a calm, stable environment. What Ben needs now! Like his siblings, Ben is looking for people with experience with insecure dogs who are willing to respect his pace. He needs empathetic, patient companions who give him a sense of security without pressuring him. Whether as an adoption or a foster placement, what matters most is a home that gives him time, shows understanding, and can celebrate small steps. Ben has the potential to open up further. He just needs someone who believes in him. Ben is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-adoption check. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, please note that a dog may behave differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

Ben • geb. Was Ben jetzt braucht!

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
