Adopt Benjamin

Mixed Breed · Male · 2 years

"Tollpatschiger Purzelbaum-Clown" Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: Aug. 2015 In shelter since: Sept. 2020 Gets along with dogs: no Gets along with cats: no Children in the household: no Home sought: with people with dog experience in a really quiet environment without children and without other pets. Due to his small disability, he should not have to climb stairs. Benjamin is friendly to people, unfortunately, dogs do not count as his friends. He is already house-trained and leash-trained. Benjamin knows indoor spaces and also rides in the car politely. In his previous life, he unfortunately didn't learn much. It was already noticeable when he came to us that he has a greater deficit with his movement apparatus. This has improved a lot since then. Benjamin walks a bit crooked and lacks the usual stability that healthy dogs have. Nevertheless, he is a very lively, active dog. "I am a lively dog and despite my handicap, I am active. My godfather and my caretakers call me a clumsy somersault clown. That's true, because sometimes I really do somersaults without hurting myself. A relaxed home is my big wish – can you fulfill it for me?"

„Tollpatschiger Purzelbaum-Clown“ Rasse: Am. Staffordshire Terrier Geschlecht: männlich, kastriert Geburtsdatum: Aug. 2015 Im Tierheim seit: Sept.

About Benjamin

What life with Benjamin looks like

Benjamin is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benjamin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benjamin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benjamin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benjamin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benjamin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benjamin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benjamin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
