Benji

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Adult · 4 years

ello, I'm Benji... and not too long ago, my friend and I were left behind at a vet practice. It was a confusing and scary time, but thankfully the rescue took us in and promised they'd help us find the loving homes we deserve.I've got a little something called FIV. It sounds like a big, scary thing, but honestly, It doesn't bother me one bit. I'm happy, healthy, full of love, and I don't let it stop me enjoying life. I still adore fuss and attention, I still love spending time with people, and I still have plenty of purrs to share. The only difference is that I'll need to be an indoor-only boy to help keep me safe, and if I live with another cat, they'll need to be FIV positive too.The funny thing is, I really do enjoy feline company. Having a cat friend to curl up with or potter around the house alongside would be lovely, especially if they understand the finer things in life, like naps and snack time!I'm a real sweetheart (or so everyone keeps telling me). I love a gentle fuss, a cosy bed, and having someone nearby to keep me company. I think I'd probably prefer a home without dogs, where life is a little quieter, but I could happily live with calm, gentle children who know how to be kind and respectful with a sensitive soul like me.I know some people hear "FIV positive" and worry, but come and meet me first. You’ll see there’s so much more to me. A friendly, affectionate boy who's been through a little sadness and is hoping for a brighter future. If you've got room in your home for an indoor companion with a huge heart and an even bigger capacity for love, I promise I'll make every day a little bit cosier.I'm not looking for perfection... just someone to love me for me. About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is a extra-large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
