Benji

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Benji • born 2019 • approx. 50 cm • friendly • very shy/anxious • seeks "experienced adopters or foster home" Benji is one of those dogs you don't notice right away – and that is exactly why he touches your heart so much. He is friendly but very shy, and he seeks protection by pressing himself close between the two male dogs he shares his run and kennel with. He shows no growling, and during our visit he even dared a brief, cautious moment of eye contact. A tiny moment – and yet a sign that trust may be slumbering inside him. We know nothing about his past. Benji is one of the many "abandoned" dogs who end up in the shelter without explanation, without a history, and without anyone asking about them. But at around six years old, he still has a whole life ahead of him. A life that can be better than what lies behind him. Benji needs people who have experience with anxious dogs and who are willing to accept him without expectations. People who give him time, offer security, and respect his pace. Whether as an adoption or a foster placement, what matters is a calm, patient place where he can truly relax for the first time. Perhaps Benji is not a dog for everyone. But for someone out there, he is exactly the right one. Benji is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-adoption check. General note about our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions – may show itself differently. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new setting. They are meant to give orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

Benji • geb.

About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
