BENJI

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

Benji has had a terrible life for far too many years in a very small kennel. He has also been in the shelter for years. His fate is likely to be a life of loneliness. He has never experienced affection or love, and food was probably only given sporadically, just enough to survive! Our animal welfare worker Bea became aware of him and was able to take him to her shelter. The dear Benji is now housed in her private shelter and is giving up hope of a life with his people. However, we still want to draw attention to him. Benji needs a little time to gain trust, but a lot of work has been done with him. You must not pressure him! Experienced and courageous people are needed who can give him the time. He only gets along with very confident females, but not with males. He would therefore be better off as a single dog. We are aware that finding such a home for him is like finding a needle in a haystack, but we want to try everything for him. Because once he trusts, he is the most loyal, dearest and cuddliest treasure of all time and can't get enough of caresses. Benji still has so much to catch up on, all the years without love, now he wants to live! We wish Benji that his dream will come true soon. He had to give up so much for so long and longs for human affection and attention. Benji has his sponsorship, THANK YOU! We wish Benji a loving home with reliable and dog-experienced people. For safety reasons, we do not want to place him with families with small children. If you are willing to accompany Benji through his life, please contact him. His mediator Iris Lücke is looking forward to your request at 98 or by email to i. luecke-animale.de Benji will be neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and chipped after a positive pre-control for a fee to be agreed upon. A Snap 4DX test (heartworm, Lyme borreliosis, Ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis) will be carried out before departure. Benji will not be placed in kennel or outdoor housing. DE·Show original

About BENJI

What life with BENJI looks like

BENJI is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Casa Animale e.V. in Gefrees.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting BENJI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BENJI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Casa Animale e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BENJI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BENJI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Casa Animale e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is BENJI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BENJI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Casa Animale e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know BENJI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
