Adopt Benji

Yorkshire Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Yorkshire Terrier Benji wants to get to know the world. Benji was allowed to move to a loving foster home in northern Germany and is now looking for his own home from there. The young dog is lively and friendly with people, he enjoys every bit of attention and affection. Environmental stimuli may impress him, but he orientates himself excellently with his humans and can be guided wonderfully through exciting situations. The little man is eager to explore the world and is very eager to learn. Being alone is still a bit difficult for the sweet one, but some initial progress has already been made. He also meets new, unfamiliar dogs openly and politely during walks. However, within his own four walls, he is somewhat territorial and extremely food jealous. If he should not live as the only prince, this can be managed and trained, because fundamentally he is very compatible. The small dog weighs only 2.5 kilograms, is an absolute charmer, and loves sitting on the lap. Despite that, there's a big adventure heart in that small terrier that wants to be challenged and supported. This should definitely be offered by his new family. Taking responsibility for a shelter dog is always a special challenge. The dogs come with a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to get used to their new life.

About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is a large young adult yorkshire terrier dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
