Benno

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

Benno (born approx. 10/2025, 54 cm tall) is only one year old (according to the vet record he was born in 01/2026, but our local veterinarian believes it was more likely 10/2025), and he has already been through a lot in his short life. In mid-October he was rescued from the Motru shelter, where he was bullied by other male dogs and had hardly any access to food. Accordingly, he came into the care of our animal welfare volunteers severely underweight, and he is now receiving medical treatment. Despite everything, Benno has kept his friendly nature. He is open, affectionate and sweet, and he greets people in a friendly way. He is probably experiencing for the first time what care, security and human affection feel like. For Benno we urgently need a foster home or, even better, his own forever home. He has most likely never lived in a house before and will first need to get used to the many everyday sounds and routines of family life. With love, patience and understanding, however, he will surely adjust quickly. Benno is still a young dog. At around one year old, he naturally has a few bright ideas of his own. He wants to explore the world, learn new things and go on many adventures together with his people. With loving, consistent guidance, he will surely develop into a wonderful companion. At first, Benno will not be able to stay alone. He needs people who have plenty of time and enjoy teaching him everything step by step. Whoever gives him this chance will gain a young dog by their side who finally wants to settle in and discover the world. Benno should no longer have to fight for attention, food or affection. He should finally be able to experience what a safe home feels like. Who will give this wonderful dog boy the chance at a new life? Benno is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection agreement after a positive pre-screening. Departure from Romania from 13.11.2026. General note about our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, as well as the potential within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Benno

What life with Benno looks like

Benno is an extra-large puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Benno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
