Adopt Bernd und Wilma

Kangal · Male · Young · 3 years

Bernd und Wilma are two impressive Kangales who would like to move into a new home together. With their breed-specific protective instinct and a pronounced need to guard their people and territory, we are looking for experienced owners who respect and appreciate these characteristics. Together, they weigh 100 kg. A solid and confident demeanor is absolutely necessary. In play, you can see their wild and rough side. It can even happen that people are simply run over. They are skeptical towards strangers but form a close and loyal bond with their trusted people. The two do not accept other dogs, small animals or cats. They rely strongly on each other and unite against other animals. We would like a home for the two of them where they can spend a lot of time in the garden, but still have close contact with humans. The garden must be securely fenced. Experience in the husbandry of HSH, especially of Kangales, is an advantage. The two have not yet received any training. We know that finding the right home will be like the famous "search for a needle in a haystack," but the two are still young and should not have to spend their lives in the animal shelter. Whoever takes on the responsibility for this special duo will get two loyal dogs.

About Bernd und Wilma

What life with Bernd und Wilma looks like

Bernd und Wilma is a young adult kangal dog waiting at Eifelhof Frankenau (BMT) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bernd und Wilma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bernd und Wilma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Eifelhof Frankenau (BMT) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernd und Wilma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bernd und Wilma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Eifelhof Frankenau (BMT) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bernd und Wilma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bernd und Wilma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Eifelhof Frankenau (BMT) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernd und Wilma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
