adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Berni has found a home! His story: The little, lively Berni is about 8 months old and was found with his siblings and taken in by a foster home in Romania. And in mid-December, things got even better for the little Berni; he was allowed to travel to a foster home in Germany and is already being prepared for what lies ahead. In the foster home, he lives with a small child, a large dog, and a cat—right from the first day, he bravely faced every encounter! Berni is not bothered by children; he had already met them in his first foster home in Romania, so he knows only the life with children. Cats and fellow animals are also no issue for the little guy. With a shoulder height of about 40 cm, Berni is already considered a medium-sized dog, but he is still on the smaller side. His coat is brown-streaked, and his ears are a real sight: they are mostly erect, but the tips are folded at the top, allowing Berni to wrap a child's paw in a snap. He will also continue to grow. With the 1×1 dog class, he is already bravely facing life in his foster home. House training has been excellent since the first day, and he can also stay alone in his foster home, even with or without fellow animals. Driving? Berni has no problem with it! However, Berni is looking for a home in a slightly quieter location—here, it can also be a quiet suburban area, but we do not see Berni in the middle of a big city, as he reacts sensitively to various stimuli and is more of a shy type. Therefore, we fear that the classic city hustle and bustle might be too much for him. The puppy phase is mostly behind Berni, with the next exciting phase of a dog's life following: puberty. The first year of life can be particularly turbulent. And when you have just taught the puppy children a good basic knowledge, accepted the leash, and stopped dragging them into the living room, puberty is knocking at the door, and the little ears are on full alert. Don't let it get to you—time will pass. Get help from good dog trainers or go to dog training classes that support you with a positive attitude and can make you a great team. Berni is ready for his new home, and so are you. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. His EU pet passport is also in his luggage. Stand: 28.12.

Stand: 28.12.2024

About Berni

What life with Berni looks like

Berni is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
