How do I contact the shelter about Bernie?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Bernie if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Bernie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Bernie isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Bernie

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 12 years

Bernie, a 12.5-year-old cat, arrived at the shelter after the passing of his owner. He is a sweet and gentle cat who is currently struggling to adjust to his new life. Since his arrival, Bernie has found it difficult to live in a kennel. He is unhappy and simply wants to find the comfort of a home, peace, and love. Bernie is relatively thin, weighing just 2.4 kg. Two blood tests were conducted to determine the cause of his weight loss, but the results are reassuring and indicate that he is in good health. He simply has a mild case of arthritis, which currently requires no treatment. He has also recently experienced some digestive issues. To help him, he is currently receiving a special diet for his stomach. We believe that his environment at the shelter and the stress of his life change may also be contributing factors. Bernie has always lived indoors. Therefore, he does not necessarily need access to the outdoors. At 12 years old, Bernie may not be the age of kittens that melt hearts at first glance... but he still has a lot of love and beautiful years to give. He deserves to be able to end his life in a real home, surrounded by people who will love and care for him. Who will give him a chance? Birthdate: January 1, 2014 - 12 years Tests (FIV, FELV, Leukemia): All tests negative Arrival date at the shelter: June 11, 2015

Bernie a toujours vécu à l'intérieur.

About Bernie

What life with Bernie looks like

Bernie is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.
