adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Bernstein waits at the Public Shelter in Baia Mare – and one can feel every day how much this place affects him. The approximately 5-year-old, 58 cm tall male dog is a beautiful sight with his soft, amber-colored fur and large, dark eyes. But now, there is not only hope but also a lot of restlessness in his gaze. Bernstein clearly suffers from the cramped and barren conditions of his cage life. He repeatedly tries to escape from his cage out of desperation and a strong desire for movement, closeness, and freedom. Outside the cage, Bernstein remains largely reserved and sensitive but friendly and people-oriented. He is interested, allows being petted, and seeks contact when approached calmly. With patience and respectful handling, he builds trust and shows his gentle side. Bernstein gets along well with female dogs, but his behavior towards male dogs has not yet been tested. It is likely that Bernstein has not yet experienced life in a home. Everyday rules, leash manners, and house cleanliness will be new to him. But he is an intelligent and attentive dog ready to learn – especially if he finally gets the necessary security and stimulation. Positive dog training classes can help him and also assist in finding his inner balance again. For Bernstein, we urgently seek a home – or at least an experienced foster home – that can give him structure, movement, and above all, stability. In a quiet, reliable environment, he will find his peace and show what he is capable of: a sensitive, eager-to-learn, and faithful companion. Bernstein travels vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and neutered. He brings his EU pet passport with him. We thank the namesake patron Ker W. for giving Bernstein his fitting name and thus a unique identity. As of: 22.02.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Bernstein

What life with Bernstein looks like

Bernstein is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bernstein, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bernstein?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernstein on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bernstein if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bernstein already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bernstein isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernstein and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
