adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Berti has finally found a home! His story: Berti starts his heart search! We hope so much that this call is successful and wonderful people respond soon, who would like to give him a cared-for and loved home, or who can offer a foster home. Berti, who is about 12 months old, unfortunately did not get to experience a carefree puppyhood. Together with his mother Almut and his brother Erwin, he lived on a farm where neglect and abuse were commonplace. Even his food bowl often remained empty or was filled with just corn. The poor living conditions also led to him being affected by a skin disease triggered by fleas, which we are currently successfully treating. Berti, likely descended from a herding or farm protection dog, currently measures 50 to 55 cm and weighs around 20 kg. It is beyond doubt that he will grow into a beautiful medium-sized male dog with his gray-white, long fur and perfect facial markings. His many wonderful qualities make Berti a perfect companion for people who are looking for joy, loyalty, and a cuddly fur friend. The shy puppy, however, needs time to understand that a hand can also give affection and that two-legged beings can be trustworthy. Through patient and attentive trusted people who give him enough time and space, he will certainly learn this lesson. Small progress is already showing, as he curiously and always friendly sticks his nose through the bars as soon as he spots his caregivers. It would be ideal if his adopters already have herding dog experience, so they can appropriately challenge and confidently guide Berti in all aspects. Even the completely unknown dog ABC must be learned by him. We would recommend a dog training class that focuses exclusively on positive reinforcement for this. She can also be of valuable assistance during the upcoming puberty. In the shelter, he shows himself to be uncomplicated and compatible with his fellow animals, although we have not yet tested if this also holds true for cats. Who wants to be the springboard for Berti's new and dreamy dog life? Many thanks to Sunny W.! You have helped this fur treasure with the adoption of his namesake sponsorship. Stand: 12.01. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Berti

What life with Berti looks like

Berti is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
