Meet Baloe: a sweet chihuahua of nearly 12 years old (16-08-2014) who came to us because of circumstances. Despite his age, he is still surprisingly fit. He likes to go for small walks, but once outside he finds it exciting. Because of circumstances, he's been putting his needs in the last few years. So he's not housebroken. It is important to take this into account. Perhaps he can still learn this through patience, structure and positive guidance. Tools such as the use of puppy pads or a turf can contribute to this. Furthermore, Baloe is a real companion dog. He likes to be with people and loves attention and company. He doesn't like being alone, and we don't know how he does it when he has to stay home alone. This will have to be built up quietly. Baloe's a tough eater. In the shelter we notice that it is a challenge to find something that he eats well. He also had a dental treatment in which, due to the state of his teeth, many teeth were removed. As a result, he has few teeth left and prefers to eat softer food. Wet food or soaked food suits him well, as long as there is attention to a full and balanced diet. He shows little interest in other dogs and prefers to walk away from them. That's why we think Baloe is best served in a quiet household without other pets and young children, where he can get all the love and attention he deserves. Maak kennis met Baloe: een lieve chihuahua van bijna 12 jaar oud (16-08-2014) die wegens omstandigheden bij ons terecht is gekomen. Ondanks zijn leeftijd is hij nog verrassend fit. Hij gaat graag mee voor kleine wandelingetjes, maar eenmaal buiten vindt hij het wel spannend. Wegens omstandigheden heeft hij de laatste jaren zijn behoefte binnen gedaan. Hij is dus niet zindelijk. Het is belangrijk om hier rekening mee te houden. Mogelijk dat hij dit nog wel kan leren door middel van geduld, structuur en positieve begeleiding. Hulpmiddelen zoals het gebruik van puppy pads of een grasmatje kunnen hieraan bijdragen. Verder is Baloe een echte gezelschapshond. Hij is graag bij mensen en houdt van aandacht en gezelschap. Alleen zijn vindt hij minder fijn en het is voor ons onbekend hoe hij het doet als hij alleen thuis moet blijven. Dit zal dan ook rustig opgebouwd moeten worden. Baloe is een moeilijke eter. In de opvang merken we dat het een uitdaging is om iets te vinden wat hij goed eet. Daarbij heeft hij een gebitsbehandeling gehad waarbij, door de staat van zijn gebit, veel tanden zijn verwijderd. Daardoor heeft hij nog maar weinig tandjes over en eet hij het liefst wat zachter voedsel. Natvoer of geweekt voer past goed bij hem, zolang er aandacht is voor een volwaardige en uitgebalanceerde voeding. Hij toont weinig interesse in andere honden en loopt er liever bij vandaan. Daarom denken wij dat Baloe het beste tot zijn recht komt in een rustig huishouden zonder andere huisdieren en jonge kinderen, waar hij alle liefde en aandacht kan krijgen die hij verdient.
