Billie

Female · Young · 1 year

Billie is a young female dog, 1.5 years old, with an enormous dose of enthusiasm and zest for life. She is a sweet dog who enjoys working closely with her handler and possesses a strong work ethic, allowing her to quickly learn new things. With the right guidance, she blossoms fully and visibly enjoys being busy together. Treats, play, and attention are her major motivators, making her a delightful dog to train and fostering a strong bond. Billie is in full puberty and needs an owner who can provide her with clear structure, guidance, and boundaries. When given too much freedom and insufficient guidance, she sometimes struggles to channel her energy properly. This can manifest in behaviors such as mouthing the leash, pulling on clothing, or seeking attention in an impulsive manner. All of this is playful, with no malice intended. Therefore, we are looking for someone willing to invest time during this crucial phase in her upbringing, working consistently, and providing her both mental and physical challenges. Small children are not a suitable match for Billie. Living with other dogs could potentially be tested. With the right guidance, Billie has all the qualities to grow into a fantastic and balanced dog.

NL·Show original

About Billie

What life with Billie looks like

Billie is a small young adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Gent in Gent.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Billie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Billie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Gent handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Billie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Billie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Gent will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Billie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Billie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Gent early rather than rehoming privately; they know Billie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
