Für ihn war das Leben im Tierheim sehr belastend – zu viel Lärm, zu viel Trubel, zu wenig Nähe. Deshalb durfte er auf eine Pflegestelle ziehen, und dort hat er sich erstaunlich schnell eingelebt. In diesem ruhigen und liebevollen Umfeld zeigt sich, was für ein wunderbarer Hund er ist. Billy bindet sich stark an „seine“ Menschen. Er sucht Nähe, genießt Streicheleinheiten und blüht im vertrauten Umfeld richtig auf. Fremde hingegen verunsichern ihn anfangs, weshalb einfühlsame und klare Führung wichtig für ihn ist. Gibt man ihm Zeit, zeigt er jedoch sein freundliches und weiches Wesen. Als rassetypisch aktiver Setter braucht Billy viel Bewegung und abwechslungsreiche Beschäftigung. Er hat einen ausgeprägten Jagdtrieb, liebt es aber, seine Energie in gelenkte Aktivitäten zu stecken. Besonders begeistert ist er vom Mantrailing, wo er sein Talent mit großer Freude und Konzentration auslebt. Auch Besuche auf der Hundewiese gehören zu seinen Lieblingsbeschäftigungen – dort bewegt er sich frei, spielt und genießt den Kontakt zu Artgenossen.
