Billy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

We do not know which and how many dog breeds have joined our lovely Billy. What is certain is that a lively, hard-working, people-loving, and more tolerant with many other dogs young man has emerged. He is one of our wonderful dogs who cannot find peace and lasting comfort due to the hectic activities in the animal shelter. At first glance, he simply appears to be playful, energetic, and mischievous. But if you look behind the scenes into his doggy soul, he tells you that he is searching for a safe (human) haven where he will finally be understood. A person who can read the canine body language and its subtle nuances, who can take the boy’s responsibilities and to whom Billy can safely entrust himself. Then it is no longer necessary for him to pretend to be twice his size during some dog encounters. Then he can shed his often harried look and show you his beautiful eyes. Then he can joyfully look forward to learning tricks, agility, or other wonderful dog sports with his primary caregiver and then snuggle together devotedly afterwards. Billy wishes for a home with people who can read the canine body language and react promptly and sovereignly to it. They should bring empathy, not be intimidated by individual insults, and be able to lead an insecure dog through life with sovereignty. If you can also offer a quiet home without small children and small pets, living on the outskirts of town or in the countryside, and enjoy exercising a dog physically and mentally, you could be the perfect person for our Billy. You would be rewarded with a wonderful dog, we are absolutely sure. For more information, find us on Instagram: (copy/paste)

About Billy

What life with Billy looks like

Billy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Billy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Billy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Billy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Billy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Billy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Billy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Billy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
