Birdie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Birdie is unfortunately escaped…we hope she is doing well. Your story: The delicate female dog Birdie is a ca. 8-year-old female dog with a shoulder height of just over 35 cm, searching for a new home. We do not know where she came from – she was rescued from the street by a private animal rescuer when she was being kicked by a man with a large dog. But our animal rescuer bravely stepped in and took Birdie in. We do not know what she went through in the past, but Birdie has not lost her faith and trust in people. Now, the loving Birdie longs for a safe place where she can create new memories. Birdie is initially a bit shy, but once she realizes that you mean her well, her tail wags. Birdie walks well on a leash and is already house-trained in her foster home. She is described as even-tempered and calm. Birdie gets along well with other dogs, whether large or small, and even puppies are no problem for her. Her compatibility with cats has not yet been tested. Her new family should be aware that Birdie may need some time to adjust. Empathetic, more calm people who can offer her nice walks and a warm dog bed are exactly what she needs. The delicate Birdie with her sweet button eyes travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She possesses an EU pet passport and would be very happy to stay in a foster home. Birdie would very much like to spend the rest of her life by your side and experience love and security for the first time. Will you be her ticket to happiness and give her a warm place to stay? Many thanks to Geli R. for the lovely name and the chance for Birdie to have a new life! As of: 14.02.

Stand: 14.02.2025

About Birdie

What life with Birdie looks like

Birdie is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Birdie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Birdie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Birdie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Birdie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Birdie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Birdie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Birdie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
