Bjarni

Male · Young · 2 years

Like many of our shy new arrivals, Bjarni also arrived unneutered and unmarked at the animal shelter. He has gone through the quarantine period and the vet visits, and has rejoined his friend group in the cattery. As one of the few tomcats in the area, Bjarni is quite popular – the female cats are very interested in him, but we can't yet say for sure if it's mutual. So far, there have been no conflicts with the shy Bjarni – meek or (previously) wild cats are usually highly social. Unfortunately, Bjarni doesn't show himself off much; during the day, he spends most of his time in or under the garden sheds – where he can hide well and still keep an eye on everything. At night, he enjoys a small feast – while he is mostly at peace with us humans, Vitty still snuggles up to him repeatedly. It will likely take some time for Bjarni to build trust with us, but here he has the time he needs. Also, one should know how to handle anxious cats in new surroundings, so children or cat beginners are not suitable for Bjarni's future environment. On the other hand, he would certainly be happy to have fellow animals. Whether he might want to form a permanent bond with one of his current roommates, we will keep an eye on. Vitty would definitely be up for it. Once Bjarni is fully settled in his new home after a long adjustment period, he would also likely enjoy exploring the garden, so we are placing him as a future outdoor cat.

DE·Show original

About Bjarni

What life with Bjarni looks like

Bjarni is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bjarni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bjarni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bjarni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bjarni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bjarni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bjarni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bjarni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
