Bječvica

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 3 months

Bječvica is one of four German Shepherd sisters who came to us from Ploče. Unfortunately, they were found abandoned and left to fend for themselves, but fortunately rescued thanks to good people who took care of them and brought them to safety. Bježica is the most timid and gentle of all the sisters. At first she is cautious and it takes her a little longer to relax and gain trust in new people and situations. But once she feels safe, she shows her warm, affectionate and very gentle nature. Like any puppy, she is curious and playful, but seeks peace and security in familiar surroundings and with patient people. Every day she learns that the world can be beautiful and safe. Bježica needs a calm and patient home that will give her time to open up at her own pace. With love and understanding, she will grow into a wonderful, devoted and gentle family friend.

No kada se osjeti sigurno, pokazuje svoju toplu, privrženu i vrlo nježnu narav. Uz ljubav i razumijevanje, izrasti će u divnu, odanu i nježnu obiteljsku prijateljicu. About Bječvica

What life with Bječvica looks like

Bječvica is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Azil Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bječvica, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bječvica?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azil Dubrovnik handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bječvica on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bječvica if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azil Dubrovnik will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bječvica already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bječvica isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azil Dubrovnik early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bječvica and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
