Adopt Blue

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

About 6.5 years old (born around October 16, 2019), 68cm, 24kg, male, neutered, leishmaniasis positive. Still in the animal shelter in Spain. Video March 26: Video October 25 Update June 25 by team members: Husky Blue – on the lookout for a new chapter full of love and movement Blue is a beautiful Husky who has experienced a lot in his life. The sudden loss of his beloved owner deeply affected him, but he has since picked himself up, even though the longing for his own home remains great. For Blue knows what it feels like to be loved and cared for. Blue has become more calm, but still enjoys his walks to the fullest. With his nose always to the ground, he curiously explores his surroundings, a typical Husky with a certain amount of prey drive. Therefore, we are looking for a home with people who can handle this and can both physically and mentally challenge Blue. The hot summers in Spain are very challenging for him, which is why we particularly wish for a sporty home in Switzerland for him. People who enjoy movement, like to be outdoors, and want to give a loyal companion a permanent place in their life would be a real stroke of luck for Blue. Whoever decides to take Blue in will get a sensitive, loyal, and active dog who is ready to go through thick and thin with his new family. Videos June 25: Blue is a dog with typical husky-like character – independent, but quite receptive to affection. He runs well on a leash, but should be led with a safety harness for safety. He loves walks and playing. When the gate to the run opens, he would like to run off immediately – which can happen. He is not compatible with cats. In a previous home, it was reported that he neither barks nor howls, likes to sleep on the couch, and doesn't destroy anything. He lived there with a small female dog; after a careful introduction, they got along well. Health: Blue is in good health. Upon his arrival at our partner animal shelter, a lab test was conducted – it was determined that he is leishmaniasis-positive, but the disease is currently not active. His organs are in order. He takes Allopurinol and Domperidone twice daily to strengthen his immune system. Please read more about leishmaniasis under this link: Background: Blue has a sad past. He was found tied to a tree near our partner animal shelter – severely emaciated. Due to his condition, he was tested and diagnosed as leishmaniasis-positive. At the animal shelter, he quickly became friends with the volunteer Alex – an unusual bond. As soon as he sees him, Blue communicates in his own way to be allowed to go out with him. About a year and a half ago, he was adopted by a young woman. After her sudden death, he returned to the care of our partner animal shelter with heavy heart. Blue is looking for a home with people who are familiar with northern breeds. He is not a difficult dog, but he needs exercise and regular outings. For those who lead an active life, Blue is the ideal companion for sporting activities or hikes – and a loyal friend for life. About Blue

What life with Blue looks like

Blue is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at home4dogs in Home4dogs.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blue, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blue?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. home4dogs handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blue on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blue if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — home4dogs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blue already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blue isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with home4dogs early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blue and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
