Bo

Male · Adult · 7 years

Bo – proud herd protection dog seeks a stable home with a mission Bo was secured due to his pronounced protective behavior and now lives in the animal shelter. There, he has his own area with plenty of space to run around, but that doesn't replace a real home for him. Bo needs a clear mission, a understanding environment, and most importantly, people who know how herd protection dogs tick – and who take him as he is. What sets me apart: I am a true protector – I defend my home against any stranger with absolute reliability. I bond strongly with my own trusted people, and when I open my heart to someone, I do so completely. Snuggling is definitely included with my favorite people. I love to play, am active, sporty, and still fit for my age (7 years). With liverwurst in the game, I am enthusiastic about almost everything. My animal caretakers say I am a lovable, characterful chatterbox. What I need to work on: I react strongly defensively to strangers – if I have to make the decision alone, I would bite. Visits stress me out – it's better to separate me and not put me in contact with visitors. I am not a dog who can go anywhere or needs to be walked a lot – I prefer to stay on my property. There is still room for improvement when it comes to obedience. I am not hard to train, but I need patience, understanding, and the right training. I am very large – standing about 1.80 m! – and can be stormy – stable-minded people are in demand. Several visits to the animal shelter will be necessary before I build trust with new people. What I am looking for: A home with experience in dealing with herd protection dogs. Ideally, a house with a very securely fenced yard or garden. A mission – I want to be allowed to watch, it lies in my nature. People with patience, responsibility, and understanding of my behavior. A quiet everyday life without constant visitors or changing people. No children or other animals in the household. Someone who loves me as I am – and does not expect me to become a "classic family dog." If you can offer Bo an experienced and well-fenced home, please contact us by phone or fill out the form below. We look forward to your inquiry!

About Bo

What life with Bo looks like

Bo is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires secure fencing, no visitors without separation, experienced livestock guardian dog handlers only

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
