Boa

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Sensibel and smart Boa has developed wonderfully! A dream female hound for herding dog enthusiasts. We are searching for a very, very attentive, confident, intact female dog an absolute perfect match. Experienced people who value and know how to lead a free-spirited dog would be ideal. She lives in the animal shelter with a German Shepherd and also needs a strong partner, a sovereign male dog would be ideal. She is also very well compatible under supervision, does not bark, plays with small puppies, as long as the other dogs recognize the hierarchy everything is fine, otherwise she will assert herself uncompromisingly. In dealing with people, she is similar. She needs a secure lead without degradation and without being annoying. People who want to live with her need to take dogs seriously. Otherwise, she will dance around their finger and take over the reins. She quickly recognizes who is strong, who is not impressed, and who only wants to appear strong. She is initially mistrustful of strangers and shows herself to be exceptionally vigilant. One cannot live with her in a casual household where people come and go. Ideal for Boa: stable people, house, yard, and well-fenced large property, a sovereign second dog, then it fits with Boa and she can show her wonderful nature. In fact, she also loves being outside, enjoys affection, cuddles, and she would also like to learn many more things and be occupied. We know about Boa's past from Croatia: an animal shelter volunteer found Boa with her two siblings exposed in a box by the roadside. An employee took her home, where she lived for several months with the family, other cats, and dogs. She got along well with everyone. Her two siblings were rehomed to good homes. STECKBRIEF Age: 01.09.2022 In animal shelter since: 25.03.23 Breed: Maremmano-mixed breed Gender: female Origin: Animal welfare Croatia Cats: yes Children?: older and dog-experienced As second dog?

About Boa

What life with Boa looks like

Boa is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
