Adopt Bobby

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 2 years

Bobby will make a brilliant training project for adult adopters who want to learn some great training techniques from us. He’ll need his new family to be around all the time as he finds his paws and settles in. He loves walkies in calm and quiet places, so he’ll need easy access to places like this from his home. He’s fine to have doggy friends out and about but needs his home to be only his so he can focus on settling and continuing his confidence building. As he is still working on his car training his home must be within a 1-hour-drive of the Leeds rehoming centre and a secure garden will be vital as he loves to play off-lead! So add this little superstar to your favourites if you’re looking for a bit of a project and a dog who’s full of potential. Bobby is a very handsome 2yr old Malinois Spaniel Crossbreed who has had a pretty difficult time in his young life. A lot of upheaval has left him very worried about the world, but we’ve been helping build his confidence and he’s now ready to take the big step and find his forever home. He’ll need a few meets before you see the playful, snuggly and downright hilarious dog we see, but he’s well worth the effort. Bobby is currently taking medication to help with his anxieties, but we plan to wean him off these as he settles into his new home. Our Vet will discuss this in more detail with potential matches.

About Bobby

What life with Bobby looks like

Bobby is a large young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Currently on anxiety medication, requires confidence building and specialized training

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
