Adopt Bolt

Greyhound · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Now when you hear the name Bolt, what do you think of? Yep. That's him, all over. Energy on top of energy and he loves to run full speed everywhere. He loves to run at you and jump also full force onto your chest, just in fun and love and sharing the intensity of the moment but because of this, definitely not for small people. He is actually also very gentle and has the softest mouth when he gets your hand or fingers to say hello. He thinks he is a lapdog but is about 50 times too big for that but his actions remain. We think perhaps he was already a pet because of the things he does and the way he acts. He is beautiful, no badness and just a big playful puppy really. NB :: Being a greyhound/sighthound means potentially could go into hunting mode if sees small animals running. We are now putting this warning with all of our sighthounds and does not mean that this particular one is this way – just a warning to introduce carefully and be watchful. About Bolt

What life with Bolt looks like

Bolt is a large puppy/kitten greyhound dog waiting at Great Hounds In Need in Ireland.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Bolt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bolt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Great Hounds In Need handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bolt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bolt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Great Hounds In Need will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bolt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bolt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Great Hounds In Need early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bolt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
