Adopt Borbas

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

Native country: Hungary This heartwarming senior dog with a resigned look, arrived at the animal shelter on December 27, 2025, as a found dog. Unfortunately, he had neither a chip nor was he reported missing. It's always surprising how many people don't care if their four-legged companion is no longer around. We don't know what his previous life was like, and it will remain a mystery. While we can't change his past, his future lies in our hearts, for he deserves to be loved, respected, and feel secure. At the animal shelter, he was given the name Borbas. New name, new life! Borbas is unfortunately still struggling with his new situation and is visibly suffering at the animal shelter. When you look into his loyal but sad eyes, you see his disappointment and the fact that he had to lead a deprived life. His wounded soul now needs two-legged beings who can dedicate a lot of time and attention to him. He needs sensitive people who can help him get used to everyday life, show him how beautiful a dog life can be with humans, and give him all the love and security he needs. His longing for a safe, quiet home is great. Borbas doesn't need more action, but people who are there for him, on whom he can rely, and who can go through thick and thin with him. He is ready to learn a few more things from the dog kindergarten and looks forward to a lot of time together with his new owners. He gets along well with his fellow animals and is currently (January 14, 2026) being integrated into a mixed pack. He doesn't need wild or intrusive dogs. For our charming Borbas, we are looking for loving people with a big heart for the older years. Patient two-legged beings who love, appreciate, and give Borbas a worthy old age. Where he feels that he is something, probably for the first time in his life. He wants to be cared for and kept busy in an age-appropriate way, take beautiful walks, and simply enjoy his new life in the circle of his new people. That is more than deserved, isn't it? Health update 14.1.26: He is missing a few teeth, and there is suspicion of patellar luxation on the left side, grade II, lateral. This will now be clarified, and an update will follow. Health update from 15.1.26: Borbas was X-rayed today due to the suspicion of a patellar luxation on the left: The left knee is thicker, lateral patellar luxation grade II. Fluid in the knee joint. A healed fracture below the left fibula head. An arthroscopic examination of the left knee and/or an exploratory operation are being considered, possibly with treatment of the injury. At the same time, correction of the patellar luxation is being considered. A random discovery: several shotgun pellets are embedded in his body and the left leg... Medical update: Borbas was successfully operated on on February 18, 2026. Whose heart has our charming Borbas touched? Medical update from 2.3.26: Unfortunately, Borbas is positive for heartworm, and the Slowkill therapy will start soon. Borbas was allowed to travel to a foster home in Switzerland in early March 2026. Foster home report 7.3.26: "Borbas has only been with me for four days on foster care. His operated leg is recovering well, he is starting to evenly load it. In general, Borbas appears very agile for his age, he likes to be outside. He gets along well with his fellow animals, he can also be content without them. Despite his tragic past, he trusts humans and is a lively, grateful, and always cuddly companion."

About Borbas

What life with Borbas looks like

Borbas is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Borbas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Borbas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Borbas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Borbas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Borbas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Borbas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Borbas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
